It is now proven: combined with physical inactivity, a sedentary lifestyle* kills, causing 5.3 million premature deaths per year worldwide. It has become the major cause of mortality linked to individual behaviour, ahead of smoking and alcohol.
There are however solutions that everyone can adopt to become more physically active.
Simply decrease the total time spent sitting during the day, reducing it to less than 7 hours and stand at least 3 minutes every 90 minutes. The standing position is supposed to reduce overall mortality from 21 to 35%. These solutions are naturally all the more effective when they are combined with exercising at least 2 and a 1/2 hours a week.
To deal with a public health issue as dangerous as sedentary lifestyles, Fondation APRIL makes available in its e-magazine “Démêler le Vrai du Faux” (Know Right from Wrong) several recommendations and practical advice to fight a sedentary lifestyle every day.
So don't wait any longer. Get up and Stand up!
* A sedentary lifestyle is the cumulative time during which an individual remains, while awake, sitting or reclining, and when energy expenditure is equal to that when resting.
